Dear Friends,
We had a very thorough and informative plaster survey in early February, conducted by AJ Restoration. It found that the Chancel ceiling is in quite good order but the Nave ceiling needs fairly extensive repair work. The Nave ceiling was reviewed panel by panel and a colour coded diagram was produced, identifying areas which are either urgent (green), in need of some repairs (pink) and no work needed (white). There is a lot more repair work to be done than anticipated, and having met with AJ Restoration, and in consultation with the Diocese, we have made some changes to the proposed repairs project. The ceiling repairs will take at least six weeks. The repair of the misaligned mould stone above the stained glass window will now involve the stone being removed and re-embedded rather than secured by cross ties. Also some of the wall repairs, on the advice of Diocesan advisors Graham Pledger and David Grech, will no longer be fixed with steel mesh and will be done in a more cosmetic way (allowing for possible future movement of the building). The scope of the outside repairs remains the same as previously proposed. This week we received the very good news this week that List B consent for our building repairs project has been granted. Repair works will be starting in mid March, and we anticipate that the project will take at least two months to complete. We very much hope to re-open the building in early June. We will of course keep you updated on our progress! Meanwhile, we are continuing to fundraise with two events in the Spring – our Quiz night on March 8 and our Walk. Run. Cycle. 10km event in April – please see ‘What’s on’ below for further details.
I hope you have a wonderful March, and a very Happy Easter!
God Bless,
Clare
