coventry cross (2)We are arranging a church away day to Coventry Cathedral on Saturday 19th March for congregation members and friends.

By going away as a group we shall have the opportunity to get to know each other better and build a stronger sense of belonging. We will also have the chance to look together at the brilliant way that artists have been engaged to illuminate faith and how we might, in a small way, use the example of Coventry in planning our own new building. For the young people and children particularly, this will tie in with their work this term on the various interpretations of the cross, in this case, the emergence of the cross of nails, symbols of peace and reconciliation from ruin and destruction, but for all of us it will be an opportunity to commit again to peace and justice.

On arrival we shall assemble in the Old Cathedral to look at the charred cross and the inspirational prayer which introduces the day perfectly. Afterwards we shall have a tour of the new Cathedral with an experienced guide, followed by a trip up the tower for the Sunday Club and a chance to join in the special Eucharistic service for others, before meeting up again for lunch.

After lunch we are hoping to have various activities, depending on the size of our group, which could include creative writing and poetry, photography, drawing, writing prayers, or a trip up the tower for those who missed it the first time.

Cost per person – max. £20 per adult  (including transport, the tour of the Cathedral and materials (not lunch!))
Children (to age 16) – free, students – £10
Depart Hardwick 8am; return by approx. 5pm

We cannot decide on transport until we know what the likely response will be, but higher numbers will reduce the cost. Ideally we want to have a coach so that everyone can be together.

In order to have some notion of the likely interest in the away day, please respond by email to pccornwell@icloud.com as soon as possible and certainly by Sunday 14 February.
